Physicians:

Brian Drage MD

Dr. Brian Drage has been a partner at Highland Family Practice for the last 20 years. He has dedicated much of that time to the care and treatment of patients both at the clinic and in emergency rooms and urgent care facilities in Montana, Nevada and Utah. He is board certified in family medicine with additional emphasis in emergency medicine, sports medicine, wilderness medicine, altitude medicine and nutrition.

After graduating from the University of California, San Diego in 1990 with a BA in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Dr. Drage attended the Medical College of Wisconsin.  He completed the first portion of his residency at St. Mary’s Hospital Family Residency, but then transferred to St. Mark’s Hospital Family Practice residency to join his then fiancée. 

Outside of his work in medicine, Dr. Drage enjoys sky diving, scuba diving, rock and alpine climbing, tennis, skiing, photography and gourmet cooking. He also loves to spend time with his wife and three kids.

Dr. Drage is accepting new patients. 

Derek Muse MD

Dr. Derek Muse opened Highland Family Practice (HFP) in 1989 and has been with the practice through its years of growth. After graduating from Brigham Young University in 1981 with a BA in Chemistry, he attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He opened HFP after a 3-year residency in Family Medicine at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. He loves helping people with sometimes complex problems and likes to be intellectually stimulated.

In his 31 years of experience in family medicine, Dr. Muse has treated a wide variety of medical issues. He maintains professional interests in the areas of weight-loss medicine, dermatology and chronic pain management. He is also qualified to treat narcotic addiction. Dr. Muse is a Board Certified Obesity Specialist and a Fellow of the Obesity Medicine Association. Dr. Muse speaks Portuguese fluently.

Dr. Muse is, by his own words, unable to stand still. Over the years, he has founded multiple businesses:  Advanced Medical Weight Loss, where he helps those who, like him, struggle with losing weight; Highland Clinical Research, an investigational medication research company to further the methods available to diagnose and treat various medical diagnoses; and Rejuvenate Medical Spa, where he serves as the supervising physician with Laura Helm PA-C for medical cosmetic treatments. When not working at any of the above pursuits, Dr. Muse loves to spend time with his family, hike, ballroom dance, bake bread and write books.

Dr. Muse is on a leave of absence until February 2023. 

Amanda Wirth MD

Dr. Amanda Wirth has served as a family practice physician in the Salt Lake area since 2000. After five years as a Faculty Physician at St. Mark’s Family Medicine Residency, she has been a clinician at Highland Family Practice for the last 15 years. She specializes in wellness and prevention for families with professional interests in dermatology, mental health, nutrition, pediatric/adolescent/women’s health and public health education. 

Dr. Wirth is passionate about providing patients with the education and tools to engage in healthy lifestyle practices.  She is a strong patient advocate and encourages patient to be active, informed members of their health care team. This led her to receiving her B.S. of Medical Sciences degree from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee , where she graduated Magnum Cum Laude in 1993. She then graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1997 and completed her residency at St. Mark’s Family Medicine Residency in 2000. 

When out of the office, Dr. Wirth enjoys tennis, golf and scuba diving with her husband and three children. She also enjoys gardening, travel and cooking.

Physician Assistants:

Deb Keye PA-C

Deborah Keye graduated in 1990 with a BS in Psychology from the University of Utah, then went on to receive her Masters in Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Emory University in 1996. She has over 20 years of experience caring for patients throughout the greater Salt Lake Area. Before her six years in family medicine, Deb worked in Otolaryngology (ENT)/Head and neck surgery for seven years, the Fatigue Consultation  Clinic for six years before that and spent a year at the Avenues Women’s Clinic  performing gynecologic and obstetric exams. She also worked 3 years at the Hughes Spalding Children’s Hospital in Atlanta, GA performing primary and asthma care for pediatric patients under the age of 18. She is accepting new patients at this time.

Deb is trained to treat a variety of chronic illnesses including ENT problems, pediatric and adult asthma. Patients should expect to be heard and have a thorough evaluation of signs and symptoms to get to the root of the issue.

When she is not working, you can find Deb paddle-boarding, skiing, hiking, playing card games, cuddling with her cat, Bennie, or watching her son's basketball games. She also enjoys traveling, reading and attending musical concerts. Throughout the years, she has volunteered, coached kids' sports teams, taught hands on science activities to elementary school children, spent time heading volunteers for school auctions, volunteered at the Fourth Street Clinic, Salt Lake City, and did a medical mission in Ibapah, Utah. Her goal is to someday visit the Galapagos Islands and return to Iceland, her favorite place on the planet.

Chris Kimler PA-C

Megan Sandy PA-C

Megan Sandy graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry in May 1996. She then received her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies in August 2012 from Idaho State University. After working at a Fatigue Consultation Clinic  in SLC for 3 years, she came to work at Highland Family Practice.  In addition to paid work she has volunteered as a provider at clinics in Utah and Idaho and travelled to Peru on a humanitarian mission. 

As a provider working in family medicine, Meg sees patients for general health and wellness visits and consults for various other medical questions and health issues.  She  enjoys the variety and challenge of   working in Primary Care and loves interacting and establishing relationships with her patients.   She went into medicine because of her attraction to  science and  her keen interest in being able to diagnose and treat illness and helping others.  She has developed a strong following of patients at Highland Family Practice who appreciate the personalized care and attention she provides. 

When out of the office, Meg loves to spend time outdoors with her wife and their dogs.  She enjoys mountain biking, mountain climbing, backcountry and Nordic skiing, trail running and travelling in the U.S. and abroad.
